What e-recording is — and how fast it works
Electronic recording (e-recording) is the process of submitting a signed, notarized property document to the County Recorder digitally through California’s Electronic Recording Delivery System (ERDS), instead of mailing it or standing in line at the Recorder’s office. As a Registered Legal Document Assistant authorized to submit through ERDS, TruPoint Legal e-records your deed the same business day you send the signed paperwork. Most documents come back stamped and recorded within an hour to the next business day, depending on the county’s processing volume.
You have two ways to use us. We can prepare your deed from $275 and add same-day e-recording for $50, or we can record a deed you already have prepared and notarized (from $55, priced by how fast you need it). Either way the document is submitted electronically in any of California’s 58 counties. The $275 preparation fee and the e-recording fee are separate line items — recording is never bundled into preparation.
The reason to e-record rather than walk in is speed and acceptance. A paper filing can be rejected at the counter for a wrong margin, a missing cover sheet, or an incomplete Preliminary Change of Ownership Report — sending you back to the line. Documents prepared to record correctly the first time clear on schedule.
We are also the rare Bay Area Legal Document Assistant authorized for San Francisco e-recording, where the Assessor-Recorder’s examiner rules make walk-in same-day filing difficult for most paper submissions.

You get the stamped copy
The Recorder returns the document recorded, usually within an hour to the next business day depending on county volume. We send you the official stamped copy.

Common questions about electronic recording
Answers in plain English. If your situation isn’t here, schedule a consultation and we’ll walk through it.
What is electronic deed recording in California?
Electronic recording (e-recording) is submitting a signed, notarized property document to the County Recorder digitally through California’s Electronic Recording Delivery System (ERDS), instead of mailing it or filing in person. An authorized submitter transmits the document to the county, which records it and returns a stamped copy. TruPoint Legal is a Registered Legal Document Assistant authorized to e-record in all 58 California counties.
How long does it take to e-record a deed in California?
Most documents are returned recorded within an hour to the next business day after submission, depending on the county’s processing volume. We transmit through ERDS the same business day we receive your signed, notarized paperwork on the Urgent tier. By comparison, mail-in services take 2 to 5 business days plus mail transit time.
How much does e-recording cost?
E-recording only, when you already have a prepared and notarized deed, starts at $55 and is priced by urgency: $55 routine (within 3 business days), $75 priority (within 1 business day), and $95 urgent (same business day). Each additional document on the same property is $35. County recording fees and documentary transfer tax are passed through at cost. If you also need the deed prepared, preparation starts at $275 and same-day e-recording is added for $50 — recording is never bundled into the preparation fee.
What if my document is rejected by the County?
If a filing fails the county’s indexing requirements — margins, return address, document title, or APN — the Recorder returns it with a rejection reason. Up to three County rejections are included at no additional charge: we correct the formatting and resubmit. Each resubmission beyond the third is $25. Because our paperwork is prepared to county format, rejections are rare in our work.
Which California counties allow e-recording?
TruPoint Legal e-records in all 58 California counties, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda, Orange, and Sacramento. We are the rare Bay Area Legal Document Assistant authorized for San Francisco e-recording, where the Assessor-Recorder’s examiner rules make walk-in same-day filing difficult for most paper submissions.
Can you e-record a deed I prepared myself or my attorney prepared?
Yes. Our E-Recording Only track is built for attorneys, title and escrow offices, lenders, real estate professionals, and homeowners who already have a signed, notarized document ready to record. We submit it electronically to the county and return your stamped copy, priced by how fast you need it — from $55.
Do I need a notary before e-recording?
Yes. A deed must be signed before a notary before it can be recorded, electronically or on paper. If you still need notarization, our same-office partner Fingerscan Digital handles deed-signing notary at the same San Jose location, so you can notarize and record in one visit.
What is ERDS?
ERDS stands for Electronic Recording Delivery System — California’s state-regulated system that lets authorized submitters transmit real property documents to county recorders electronically. Only approved submitters may use it. As a Registered Legal Document Assistant, TruPoint Legal submits through ERDS on your behalf, so you never visit the Recorder’s office.
Can a Legal Document Assistant e-record my deed?
Yes. A California Registered Legal Document Assistant authorized to submit through ERDS can e-record your deed at your direction. TruPoint Legal is LDA #268, Santa Clara County, registered and bonded, and records in any of California’s 58 counties — e-recording only from $55, or deed preparation from $275 with e-recording added for $50.
